Floristry Immersive Course (2 week intensive)
This course is our most in depth course to date. We cover not only the most important aspects of floristry skills and techniques, but also spend several sessions looking at how the business side of floristry works too. Led by Pip, the owner of The Flower Folk, alongside input from other professionals to enhance the course programme, this course is for those who would like to consider floristry as a career.
Course Content:
- Getting to grips with flowers - names (common and Latin), conditioning and caring for cut flowers.
- Working from basic floristry skills right through to more advanced larger scale arrangements. Within the two week time frame we will spend most days as practical sessions creating bouquets, vase arrangements, low table arrangements, larger table centres, statement pieces, wreaths, garland making, as well as one group project to create one large impactful piece. We will also look at the more intricate work of wiring techniques (buttonholes, hair flowers)
- In depth theory and practical sessions based on colour, shape, form, texture - this is the key to exploring your own creativity. Building on these key components of design will really help elevate your floristry work.
- Photography session - good photography skills are crucial in our world of social media and online content. This session will be taught by one of our photographers we use for our own product photography at The Flower Folk. If you take photos on your phone this is fine, or you can bring your camera.
- Flower Growing session - we want to emphasise the importance of using locally grown produce in our work as this is more sustainable and allows to stay in tune with the natural seasons of our locality. This session will be led by the largest independent grower in the north east, Kate Norris of Northumbrian Flowers. She will give us an insight into her business and how we order locally grown flowers for our work, and why this is so important.
- How to make floristry your career - covering the basics of what you will need to do to set up a business to the more specific area of running a business that uses cut flowers, Pip will share her years of experience to give a realistic and honest insight into the trials and tribulations of running a floristry business, as well as discussing all the positives! With 20 years first hand experience which Pip is willing to share, it is the best way to get a real handle of what a floristry business is like to run.
- Information sheets will be provided each day to take away with you, any floral arrangements made throughout the course are yours to take home (with the exception of large scale installation piece).
All materials will be provided, plus hot drinks and snacks throughout. This course in non-refundable within 14 days of the start date. If you'd like to pay for the class in 2 instalments this is possible, please get in touch with Pip on pip@theflowerfolk.com to arrange this.
