Floristry Foundation Course (6 week evening class or three full days)

Collection: Floristry Foundation Course (6 week evening class or three full days)

This course will be led by Pip, owner of The Flower Folk, but will also have some input from other members of the team throughout. This course is ran as either 6 three hour sessions or 3 full days (see bottom of page for bookings), where participants have a chance to learn something new and enjoy working with and amongst cut flowers -it's good for the soul! The course will go someway to helping those considering a career in floristry, or purely be an enjoyable way to learn something new just for the joy of it!

The course encapsulates all the key components of floristry and teaches it within a relaxed and friendly environment.  Open to any ability and anyone with an interest in flowers and/or floristry who is looking to expand their knowledge and skills set. We will be concentrating on sustainable floristry techniques - so no floral foam will be used in any of the designs you make, and we will consciously consider planet friendly options throughout the entire course.

Each session covers a different aspect of floristry, with detailed hand outs and information sheets to take home. You will also take home with you any floral arrangements you make in each session (bar the final large installation session).

Course Content:

- Getting to grips with the basics - an introduction to floristry. How to care for cut flowers, conditioning flowers, working with the seasons, sustainable floristry - what is it? There will be some hands on time with flowers for part of this session but there will be a main focus on learning theory and the basics of cut flower care. You will take home information sheets plus flowers you worked with during the practical session.

- Creating hand tied arrangements and various floristry techniques to create small and large vase/vessel arrangements. A hands on session, with demos, guided practical learning and a chance to experiment and work independently with your flowers. You will take home information sheets plus flower arrangements you made during the session.

- Using colour and texture in design. Thinking about choices of flowers, textures of foliage and flower shapes, looking at the colour wheel, looking at shapes and patterns in design work.  This session will be a mix of theory, practice and both guided and independent working. You will have the opportunity to create an asymmetrical design and take it home with you.

- Dried flowers. An introduction to working with dried flowers, how to dry, what to dry, as well as different ways of working with dried flowers to create floral designs. You will take home your arrangements of dried flowers plus information sheets on drying and pressing flowers.

A chance to bring together everything learnt in the previous 5 weeks, this week is all about the individual choosing what they'd like to develop and practice. Lots of practical time given to really allow each student to hone their techniques and pull together ideas learnt regarding colour, texture, shape and form.

 - Eco - friendly large scale installation. The group will work together to create a really special large 'wow' floral design drawing on all the floristry skills gained over the course.

All materials will be provided, plus hot drinks and snacks throughout. This course in non-refundable within 14 days of the start date.  If you are unable to make any of the sessions we will not be able to refund any part of the payment but there is possibility of attending the equivalent week on another run of the course if numbers allow. If you'd like to pay for the class in 2 instalments this is possible, please get in touch with Pip on pip@theflowerfolk.com to arrange this.
